Iwan Deplazes will lead AMAS for another three years as President of the Board of Directors. Charlotte Baenninger has also been confirmed by the Board as Vice-President for another three years. The Swiss asset management industry even in negative market periods contributes to strengthening the Swiss financial centre and plays a core function in the occupational pension scheme BVG, as the Swiss Asset Management Study 2023 by the Asset Management Association Switzerland (AMAS) and the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) shows. Demand from foreign clients for asset management made in Switzerland remains strong.
Building Bridges is back with its fourth edition running October 2-5 2023 at the Centre International de Conférences Geneva (CICG) and online. It will feature a high-level Summit, over 65 community-led events, and a networking village. This international event aims to create synergies, support new initiatives, and make finance a key catalyst for change.
The Asset Management Day 2023 once again proved to be the industry event for Swiss asset management. In front of more than 300 visitors at the Bellevue Palace in Bern, Marlene Amstad, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA), Ulf Lewrick, Chief Economist of the BIS, Martin Schlegel, Vice Chairman of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank (SNB) and Sergio Ermotti, CEO of UBS, spoke about developments, risks and opportunities in Swiss asset management and the financial center.
Switzerland is to become a leading hub for sustainable finance. The Federal Council published two reports on this today: A document on "Sustainable Finance Switzerland - Fields of action 2022-2025 for a leading sustainable financial centre" and an updated position regarding greenwashing prevention in the financial sector. The Asset Management Association Switzerland supports the basic objective and will contribute its positions to the individual working groups.
Swiss asset managers play a central role in stabilizing the Swiss BVG: The better the performance of the asset managers and the 3rd contributor, the higher the pensions paid out in the end.
As part of the ongoing adjustments to self-regulation, AMAS has revised the declaration of loyalty for service providers of individual asset management for pension funds. The model document is now available.
The Swiss Climate Scores (SCS), launched by the State Secretariat for International Finance (SIF) in June 2022, establish best-practice transparency on the Paris-alignment of financial investments to foster investment decisions that contribute to reaching the climate goals. The SCS introduce six indicators which are based on existing and internationally established criteria and methods. To clarify open issues, upon publication of these indicators, AMAS and SSF in a joint working group initiated the work to create a template that guarantees standardised calculation of the different indicators and uniformly displays results.
